Rubrik: Brand refresh for a global data security leader

Put simply, Rubrik, the Cloud Data Management Company, simplifies things. Their tech empowers individuals and businesses to manage their data more effectively – so that they can focus on their core competencies.

But simple isn’t easy. It takes hard work, teamwork. So when Rubrik approached us to work closely alongside their internal creative to deliver their brand refresh, it was the start of a collaborative (and very productive) partnership.

Objective

  • Create a strong, ownable visual brand language that would cut through and differentiate Rubrik in a competitive market.
  • Communicate Rubrik’s offerings and solutions in a clear, compelling and immediate way.
  • Pave the way for sustained revenue growth and increase in ARR.

Us and us

We were effectively an extension of Rubrik’s internal creative and design teams, digging deep to understand their culture, motivation and objectives. This helped define our role as a strategic partner and in turn, our input into the process.

Our skills were complementary and our communications were frequent but more importantly, always open and honest. This was collaboration, not competition.

Together, we quickly established a creative direction. With a clear understanding of multiple stakeholders and product owners – roles and responsibilities – we seamlessly mapped out work and tasks, factoring in time for senior stakeholder sign off.

Greater than the sum of our individual parts

Our team produced a suite of bespoke UI and explainer animations, illustrations and icon set. We also had the opportunity to partner with illustrator, Alex Iacobus, providing him with creative and art direction.

Alex’s style veers from the traditional and signals a shift towards a more contemporary, energetic approach within the industry.

The result? A stylised, ownable series of hero illustrations, depicting Rubrik’s proposition of a Cloud, Data and Security forward approach.

Once the assets were finalised, it was over to the Rubrik team who brought everything together for their website and an outbound ad campaign. It was fantastically rewarding to see our combined hard work and efforts coming together to deliver the best business outcome.

Together, we delivered:

  • Explainer animations which made the complex beautifully simple.

  • UI animations showing the practical elements of the Rubrik interface and product experience.

  • A comprehensive suite of bespoke illustrations and icons.

The results

  • 37% YoY revenue growth in 2021.
  • By August 2022, the company had surpassed $400m in ARR – an increase of 100% year-on-year.
